Cardella Project – Week One
Jessica & Chris Cardella came to Kuiken Brothers in Warwick
for their new kitchen. They requested something where they
could do informal entertaining, and that had some more old
world charm than what they currently have. The challenge
was to incorporate existing post and beam work within the
kitchen and eating are into a functional and aesthetically
pleasing place. They also wanted the bath right off of the
kitchen to match.
What ensues is the diary of their project.
The existing kitchen has been cleaned of all its “goodies” and
this the last time it will be seen like this. The existing
cabinets are a medium raised panel oak, with a Corian countertop.
Although it is still in decent condition, it is probably
the original kitchen that was installed when the house was
built in 1987.

Cardella Project – Week Three
After all of the demolition and rough-ins are completed, arrangements have been made for the cabinet delivery. This is when real progress is seen. The cabinets are unpacked and sorted out on the first day. The remainder of day one and all of day two are spent getting the cabinetry set and ready for the countertop template. The size of the project determines this actual schedule though.
The appliances and sink(s) are delivered prior to the countertop template. Setting the appliances into their respective places ensures a proper fit of all critical items during the template.
Although there is significant progress being made there is more work to be done.

Cardella Project – Countertops are Installed!
The day has arrived for the countertop installation. The fabricator made a template approximately a week and a half ago. With the installation of the top the kitchen looks complete. The top material is Emprerador Light Marble in the kitchen and Emperador Dark Marble in the bathroom. The slabs for both rooms were selected at the stone supplier’s yard. This selection was done earlier in the project, and was a balance between the cabinet, plumbing and tile finishes to achieve the right look. While waiting for the tops, the walls have started to be painted, and the electrician has been in to finish up his end. Now with the countertops installed the plumber can finish up his end and get this kitchen and bath ready for use...
The new countertops are being installed note the island top has room for seating. |
